Why Join the Merc?
Community Mercantile membership is open to everyone. It is not necessary to be a member to shop at the Merc, but being a member has many great benefits:
- Special discounts during Members' Day Celebrations, including 10% off all purchases that day.
- Discounted fees for workshops, cooking classes and other Merc-sponsored activities.
- Free use of the Merc's Community Room. (Must be scheduled in advance.)
- Annual coupon savings book for member-owners.
- Extended check writing privileges. Only members may write checks for more than the amount of their purchase.
- Our monthly newsletter, "The Merc News," full of healthy information, tasty recipes and articles to keep you informed about your store.
- Free placement of classified ads and discounted space advertising rates in "The Merc News."
- Opportunities to voice your opinions at member-owner only special events.
- Yearly patronage rebates are based on a percentage of your total purchases for the year may be distributed at the discretion of the Board of Directors. The co-op must make a profit in order to consider issuing patronage rebate checks.
- Opportunities to be part of the decision making process in the store where you buy your food.
- Voting privileges and opportunities to participate in goverance by voting for board members who best represent your viewpoint.
- The knowledge that you are supporting the only locally owned natural food cooperative in Lawrence.
It's easy to join!
A membership in the Merc is $75. You may pay your membership in full, or you may make three $25 payments over the course of a year. Membership is fully refundable within 90 days of written notification. Just ask any of our friendly cashiers and they'll be happy to get you signed up!
